Interim manager Robert Moreno has announced a 30-man squad for four upcoming friendly matches, featuring key overseas stars and several K League 1 players. The squad includes Son Heung-min and Lee Kang-in, alongside new call-ups like Kim Gun-hee and Park Tae-jun.
[News & Book = Reporter Song Young-du] A large number of K League players, including key figures from K League 1 leaders FC Seoul Jung Seung-won and Koo Sung-yun, have been selected for the South Korean national football team led by manager Robert Moreno.
Manager Moreno held a press conference at Korea Football Park in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province on the 14th and announced the 30-man national team roster to participate in four friendly matches to be held during the September and October A-match periods.
While key overseas players such as Son Heung-min (LAFC), Lee Kang-in (Atletico Madrid), Kim Min-jae (Bayern Munich), and Hwang Hee-chan (Schalke) remained on the list, many players active in K League 1 were included considering the schedule of playing four matches. Jung Seung-won and Koo Sung-yun, who are leading FC Seoul to the top, were named, and Kim Gun-hee (Incheon), Park Tae-jun (Gimcheon), Kim Bong-soo (Daejeon), and Kim Tae Hyun (Jeonbuk) were also called up. Among them, Kim Gun-hee, Park Tae-jun, and overseas player Kim Min-su (Rangers) will wear the national team emblem for the first time in their lives.
These friendly matches serve as a stage for Korean football to announce a new start following the 2026 North America World Cup. Manager Moreno will temporarily lead a total of six matches until this coming November, and the possibility of transitioning to a permanent manager is open depending on the results.
The national team will begin its first match against Ecuador at Suwon World Cup Stadium on the 24th, followed by Uruguay (Seoul) on the 28th, Venezuela (Ulsan) on October 2nd, and Uzbekistan (Yongin) on October 6th.
