[News & Book = Kang Seon-yeong reporter] Singer Sim Soo-bong (71) is causing controversy by publicly criticizing junior singer Kim Da-hyun (17) on the stage of a regional trot festival.
Before taking the stage at a recent regional trot festival, Sim Soo-bong poured out sniping remarks while mentioning Kim Da-hyun, who had performed previously.
Sim Soo-bong said to the audience, "It made my head dizzy. Is that manager perhaps here? It seems like a young lady doesn't know what singing is or what life is."
She said, "Listening to the song, I feel so exhausted. I am speaking in front of you all. Please do not send that performer in front of me again in the future. I feel so dizzy right now that I feel like I might collapse," while adding, "Singing is not something you do so carelessly. Having life experiences and going through hardships to create music that consoles those who come to visit like this is not that easy."
As the video containing the remarks spread through online communities and SNS, opinions emerged that the remarks toward a young junior were not adult-like.
As the controversy grew, Sim Soo-bong stated on the 21st, "The fact that I spat out words that deviated from common sense at an inappropriate moment at a trot festival where everyone should be laughing and enjoying themselves, even if I had ten mouths, I would have nothing to say."
She continued, "Above all, I did not know exactly who the previous performer was, and it was absolutely not something said to humiliate a specific person," but apologized, saying, "As an adult, it was clearly wrong to say words that hurt the heart of a junior singer."
She bowed her head, saying, "Through this apology, I express deep regret and apologies to Kim Da-hyun and her fan club, and to all the officials who worked hard for the event," and "I am sincerely sorry to the many participants who came to see the performance on the day of the trot festival. I ask for your forgiveness with a wide heart."
Kim Da-hyun was born in 2009 and is the daughter of Kim Bong-gon, who is known as the 'Cheonghak-dong Scholar.' She took second place in MBN's 'Voice Trot' in 2020 and placed 3rd in MBN's 'The Best K-Trot Singer' in 2023.
